Play dough is universal, all you need is a creative mind and the world is yours to create. This timeless activity makes the perfect party activity and is easy to prepare. You can make the playdough with the kids, make extra for party favors and ask the adults to join in the fun.

5 Unique Playdough Recipes

Mud Dough

Ingredients

  1. 2 cups mud
  2. 2 cups sand
  3. 1/2 cup salt

Directions: Combine ingredients and add enough water to make pliable.

Children will enjoy working with this muddy mixture. It can be used for rolling and cutouts. Children can pretend to make mud pies in the kitchen or a volcano on a distant island. Who doesn't enjoy playing with mud? Keep in mind, children will get messy so you may want to turn old adult t-shirts into smocks.

Peanut Butter Playdough (edible)

Ingredients

  1. 2 1/2 cups peanut butter
  2. 2 Tablespoons honey
  3. 2 cups powdered milk

Directions: Mix well with clean hands. Keep adding powdered milk until the dough feels soft, not sticky.

Children can make their own tasty treats. Add some raisins, dried fruit or chocolate chips. The possibilities are endless and the children will enjoy eating their creations.

Soap Dough

Ingredients

  1. 2 cups soap flakes

Directions: Add enough water to moisten and whip until consistency is right for modeling. Use soap such as Ivory Snow, Dreft, Lux, etc. Mixture will have a slight flaky appearance when it is molded. It can be put up to dry, but the drying process will take a while.

Children enjoy this dough because it offers a fresh scent and some bubbles. If you make the dough with the children they will enjoy watching the bubbles form when the water is added to the soap flakes. Food coloring can be added as well to give the soap a splash of color.

Oatmeal Dough

Ingredients

  1. 2 cups oatmeal
  2. 1 cup flour
  3. 1/2 cup water

Directions: Combine the ingredients. Knead well until dough is easy to manipulate. This dough has a great texture and all the ingredients are usually found in your kitchen.

Children can even paint this dough after it dries. Depending on the length of the party, you can prepare washable paints for the children to use, or send home a small set of paints as party favors. The children can continue the fun at home.

Clay Dough

  1. 3 cups flour
  2. 3 cups salt
  3. 3 Tablespoons alum

Directions: Combine ingredients and slowly add water, a little at a time, while mixing well with a spoon. As mixture thickens, continue mixing with your hands until it has the feel of clay. If it feels too dry, add more water. If it feels too sticky, add equal parts of flour and salt.

Clay offers a unique medium to the world of dough. This thick dough can be smeared, sculpted, pulled, stretched and rolled into any great work of art.
